Brimstone

Gonepteryx rhamni

Recognise!

The brimstone can be recognized by its bright yellow colour and the arch-like form of the wings. Male butterflies are striking yellow whereas females have a slightly greenish touch.

Did you know?

The brimstone is one of the butterfly species that hibernate. In contrast to other hibernating species, the brimstone does not seek frostless spaces, but remains outdoors. It can survive temperatures down to -20°C with the help of its anti-freeze secretions, such as glycerin, which prevent the body fluids from freezing.
